“Regionality” of Digital Platforms

The research article “Regionality of Messaging Applications: Everyday socialization as a gateway to civic and political participation in China, Japan, South Korea, and the United States” was accepted in Social Media + Society.

This article proposed an analytical framework “regionality,” concerning digital platforms’ origin, development, and usage. It was theorized under the framework of political economy of digital platforms. Messaging applications that are defined as regional have their origin, development, and usage all occur in one single country.
